The 2011 Fibras Musicales Collection
Fibre Artists Auction their Work to Support the National Academy Orchestra
Fibras Musicales was a joint project with the Brott Summer Festival of Hamilton to promote fibre artists by showing their works at concerts of the National Academy Orchestra of Canada. This orchestra, assembled each summer by Maestro Brott, played an extensive repertoire over 10 concerts. The orchestra is made up of young musicians and their mentors, and is meant to provide the musician with a summer of experience.
Fibras Musicales was the first Fibrations project. Fourteen fibre artists from across Ontario have created 18 fibre art pieces inspired by the music of Maurice Ravel, Manuel de Falla and Édouard Lalo. These works were shown at concerts over the summer and bids were accepted at concerts and online. All proceeds went to support the National Academy Orchestra and the Brott Music Festival 2011. Final bids were made on August 11, 2011 at a concert of Spanish Music at Mohawk College in Hamilton.
